As Nigeria joined the global community in celebrating the 2024 World Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Day under the theme ‘Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of NGOs in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’, the Chairman of Harrison Goodness Foundation, Chief Richard Harrison, has said that building a sustainable future is possible through harnessing individual resources in an organized and purposeful manner.

In a release he made available to our correspondent through WhatsApp, Chief Harrison maintained that this could be started by an individual who must attract like minded people and united as an NGO, sets the stage running on a progressive path by ensuring the individual’s dreams do not die with him or her.
The HGF Chairman who torched/touched on the theme of the event, “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of NGOs in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”, observed that the World NGO Day highlights the pivotal role that non-governmental organisations play in advancing global sustainability.
According to him, “This was why we registered HGF to lessen the burden of my efforts in developing people, places and culture”.
Also in a release made available to our correspondent, the Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS) who reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting human rights, social justice, and sustainable development in the various communities and beyond, asserted that NGOs play a vital role in driving progress towards the SDGs, which serves as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
The release signed by Mr. Okoye Chuka Peter, CEHRAWS Executive Director, stated that the Organization would remain committed to championing the rights of the marginalized, promoting sustainable development, and advocating for policies that uphold human dignity and respect for all.
While stating that CEHRAWS recognized the pivotal role that NGOs play in advancing global sustainability and achieving these ambitious goals, Okoye stated that, “In Abia State, CEHRAWS has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of marginalized communities, promoting environmental conservation, and empowering individuals to create positive change in their communities”.
The release made available to our correspondent partly read, “Through grassroots initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and capacity-building programs, CEHRAWS works tirelessly to address the root causes of poverty, inequality, and injustice while promoting sustainable development practices.

“The 2024 World NGO Day serves as an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contributions of NGOs in Abia State and around the world. From providing essential services to vulnerable populations to advocating for policy changes that prioritize sustainability and social justice, NGOs are catalysts for positive change in our society.
“As we look to the future, CEHRAWS calls for greater collaboration between NGOs, governments, and other stakeholders to accelerate progress towards the SDGs. By working together, we can leverage our collective expertise, resources, and networks to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for present and future generations”.
Okoye, who disclosed that CEHRAWS is a leading civil rights organization, founded on the principles of justice, equality, and sustainability, works to empower marginalized communities, promote human rights, and advance sustainable development through advocacy, education, and grassroots initiatives, enjoined other NGOs in Abia State to reaffirm its commitment to building a better future for Abia State, Nigeria, and the world.
