The National Directorate of Employment, NDE Abia State has flagged off the Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) for 20 unemployed persons drawn from the 17 LGAs of Abia State.

The beneficiaries are being trained in 3 skills, POP, Soft Landscaping and Hard Landscaping.

In his address during the event in Umuahia, the NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, encouraged the beneficiaries to use their hands to recreate their environment and make Abia and the nation at large  a masterpiece in the near future.

Fikpo who was represented at the ceremony by the State Co-ordinator, NDE Abia State, Mrs Tessy Wachuku, also enjoined them to take advantage of the free 3 months intensive training to learn the skills and become professionals who will in turn train others thereby reducing unemployment in our society. 

He congratulated the participants for the privilege to be selected for the training and thanked the Minister for State, Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Nkeiru Onyejeocha and the Federal Government for making the training a reality.

Speaking also, the Head of Department, Special Public Works, Arc. Michael Ubani, also encouraged the participants to make good use of the opportunity given to them, put hands together and make Nigeria great.

In a goodwill message, the trainer for soft landscaping and Manager Sunflower gardens, Associate Professor Cordelia Ogbuehi, tasked the participants to create a consciousness of beautiful environment for a healthier society.

Responding on behalf of the participants, Miss Juliana Okamigbo, a soft landscaping trainee thanked the Directorate and the Federal Government for the opportunity granted them and promised that they will make judicious use of the opportunity.
