The Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (UCCIMA) has expressed optimism that the polices, procedures, standards and programmes of the Abia State Governor-elect, Dr. Alex Otti’s administration will place Abia on the global map.

In a congratulatory message signed by Chief Chidi Nkem Aruoma, the UCCIMA Chief Servant and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the body also expressed hope that as the administration of the Governor-elect, will create an environment where budding creatives and entrepreneurs could freely work, innovate and collaborate.

The UCCIMA boss who encouraged  Otti to enhance the operations of the Small and Medium Scale operators in the State, after his inauguration, pointed out that a conducive environment and business financing are the major factors that grows SMEs.

Aruoma said, “The influence of SMEs in Umuahia and Abia State in general is pivotal in the development and improvement of the State’s Internally Generated Revenue and we can not shy away from the fact that most SMEs need ways of support and improvement over time”

Aruoma who also noted that Abia remains the frontier for economic development with its teeming youths as the key to the actualisation of a prosperous future, said there was a need to enhance the capacity of young people to create and grow businesses in Ohafia, Umuahia and Ukwa axis of the State.

The UCCIMA Chief Servant who also noted that capital is the powerhouse of every business, regardless of size. said, “That is why it is important to plan SMEs around the capital, which is the core factor of production in the economic sense”.

According to him, SMEs are the fuel that drives any society’s economy, as such emerging businesses require some level of financial support to aid the production and sale of products to the larger Abia customers, hence the need for the Governor-elect to, during his administration, try encourage business financing to enable the sustainable growth of SMEs in the State.

The congratulatory message partly read: “I, and on behalf other Executive, Council and members of Umuahia Chamber of Commerce heartily Congratulate Dr Alex Otti on his landslide victory at the recent Abia State Governorship election . Gods time is the best and now is the appointed time”.
