The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district, Chief Theodore Ahamefula Orji has made it clear that he does not joke with the health of his constituents and would therefore do all within his limits to ensure that the health centres he built across Abia Central functions fully.
Sen. Orji, the former governor of Abia State said this recently, when he took delivery of modern tricycle medical ambulances for health centres in Abia Central zone as donated by National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA.
According to Sen. Orji, since most primary healthcare centres are in the rural areas, the ambulances are designed to beat the traffic and are very much compatible with rural environment.
Explaining further, the Abia State Liaison Officer to the Senator, Hon. Ifeanyi Umuere said the ambulances came as part of the doggedness of Sen. Orji, stating that Abia Central zone was among the first two senatorial zones in Nigeria to receive the ambulances from NPHCDA.
The NPHCDA designed the ambulance to meet their specification for rural adaptability and “Ochendo (Sen. Orji) is the second senator to receive his”.
Umere said the ambulance is cheaper to maintain and are cost effective, adding “The tricycle ambulance is by adaptation and size, slim for easy movement and meandering in the event of traffic hold-ups.
“Any motorcycle or keke operator can drive it in a case of emergency”, Umere explained, adding that more are on the way.
He also disclosed that the first set of the ambulance will be deployed to Ukome Health Centre, in Umuahia North LGA where borehole water has also been discovered for the first time in the history of the community.
The other ambulance, he said will be deployed to Umuariaga Health Centre in Ikwuano LGA.
It was gathered that the ultra modern tricycle ambulances were fabricated in Nigeria and features all that is seen in a four-wheel regular ambulance, including stretcher, oxygen masks and cylinder, telephone accessories, seats for a Doctor and other medical personnel, and other medical equipment and facilities.
