2021 BISHOP’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

It is a thing of great joy that another Christmas season is here. It is a season of excitement and glad tidings, little wonder most people pray to witness the season. We ascribe all the thanks and praise to God that we all have witnessed this season despite all the challenges of the year ranging from insecurity, banditry, kidnapping, attacks by hoodlums/unknown gunmen, economic hardship and high cost of living, various variants of COVID-19 and weekly sit at homes among others.

It has indeed been a year of uncertainties. One issue led to another. Fear of the unknown became the order of the day. Killing of Nigerians in Nigeria by only God knows who is heart-breaking. Our security agents are always ‘on top of the matters’ without any evidence of their efforts. Our dear country has never been this divided in history. We can only look up to God because; human institutions have failed in their responsibilities especially, in the area of protection of lives and properties including good governance.

The peace we are looking for as a people can only be found in Jesus Christ – He is the only reason for the season. This is not a season for weeping and sorrowing. It is a season of celebrating the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. However, He must be given His rightful place in your life. You cannot afford to block your ears to His calls according to Rev. 3: 20. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.” There is enough enjoyment in Christ.
On the other hand, we call on our Governments at all levels (Federal, State and Local Governments) to do all within their powers to ensure adequate security of lives and properties during and after this season. We cannot afford to continue to live in fear in our father’s land. Those perpetrating evil and wickedness should be apprehended and made to face the law of the land. 

As we appreciate God for travelling mercies granted to our people, it is our prayers that God will grant His people divine protections. We also encourage our people to ensure that they use this festive period to review their voter’s status (PVC) before travelling back. Your PVC is your voice in the forth-coming National elections.

More so, Churches in our Diocese are encouraged to lead by example and organise programmes for the spiritual nourishment of God’s people. The Church and ministers of the gospel are expected to preach peace and lead the masses to Jesus Christ who is the Prince of Peace. People of God are encouraged to share God’s blessings with people around them. There is joy in sharing. Don’t be selfish!
