Rotary Creates Environments Of Peace – Rtn. Sopuruchi
As the world observed the year 2021 International Day of Peace, the Visionary President of Rotary Club of Umuahia North, District 9142, Rtn. Emeka Sopuruchi has disclosed that peace is a cornerstone of the Club’s mission, as a humanitarian organization.
The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.
Interacting with a cross section of Journalists as part of the activities to mark the celebration in Umuahia, Abia State, Rtn. Sopuruchi made it clear that Rotary has succeeded in creating peaceful environments across the globe through its activities.
Rtn. Sopuruchi who pointed out that the Rotary Peace Fellowship was designed for leaders with work experience in peace and development, also disclosed that Peacebuilder Clubs are a Rotarian movement, creating energy and momentum for peaceful conflict resolution around the world.
He said that Rotary’s goal today is to create peaceful environments, adding, ” We at Rotary Club of Umuahia North, District 9142, in line with Rotary International Area of Focus on Peace building, strive to create an environment where peace can be built and maintained through sustainable activities in Communities worldwide”.
Recall that the 2021 theme for the International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”, an invitation to join the efforts of the United Nations family as it focus on recovering better for a more equitable and peaceful world.
The theme enjoined all to celebrate peace by standing up against acts of hate online and offline, and by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic, and as the world recovers.
