RC Umuahia Donates Instant Microbial Water Filters, Medical Incentives To Abia Health Center


Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142, Tuesday, donated an Instant Microbial Water Filters, medical equipment and consumables worth thousands of naira to the World Bank Housing Estate Primary Healthcare Center, Umuahia, Abia State.

Presenting the medical incentives to the healthcare center, the Visionary President of the Club, Rtn. Ugochukwu Ajawara observed that most residents, lack access to clean and safe drinking water as most boreholes show a high degree of contamination with bacteria and viruses, which he described as the catalyst of various waterborne illnesses.

He revealed that Rotary has worked for decades to provide people with clean water by digging wells, laying pipes, providing filters, and installing sinks and toilets, adding that the Club makes high-quality healthcare available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

According to him, Rotary expand access to quality care, so mothersand children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. 
His words, “Rotary is a global network of 1.3 million neighbours, friends, leaders and problem solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.

“While attempting to create lasting change in our communities, Rotary focuses on seven areas amongst which is Maternal and Child Health; and Disease Prevention and Treatment”.

Lending her voice, the District Governor Elect, Rtn. Grace Okaro enlightened the nursing mothers and pregnant women on the essence of Essential Family Practices and the health benefits of purified water. She stated that the presentation was made in collaboration with Environ Focus and Lifting Africa pointing out that the former is a long standing project partner of the Rotary Club of Umuahia.

While exposing and expounding the positive things/programmes done by the Club in its immediate environment and beyond, DGE Okaro encouraged the medical officers in the facility to join the Club in order to better the lives of mankind.

Going down memory lane, the District Governor Elect recalled that the Club had in the year 2013 constructed a placenta pit for the Primary Healthcare Center.

Responding, the Matron, World Bank Housing Estate Primary Healthcare Center, Mrs Uchechi Oleka represented by Mrs Adanne Okwum officer in charge of Medical records, lauded the Club for the donation and prayed God to sustain and enrich the Club greatly.

President-elect Rotary Club of Umuahia, Rtn. Adaeze Iroegbu, Rotaractor Oyoh Precious, District Secretarial Assistant, Club Secretary Rotaract Club of Umuahia Community Based, Rtn. Chimaobi Madukwe among other Rotarians and Rotaractors were in attendance.
