Preserve Courts In Your Areas, It Is Your Property, Govt Urges Communities

The Abia State Customary Court of Appeal President, Hon. Justice SMC Ururuka-Onyesoh has constituted and inaugurated the Ugwueke Customary Court located at Isieke Amaba Ugwueke in Bende L.G.A with an appeal to the community to nurture and preserve the court as their property to maximize the benefits inherent in establishing the Honourable Court.

Inaugurating the Court at a colourful but brief ceremony at Isieke Amaba Ugwueke, according to the press release signed by Bro. Prince Ralph Igbokwe, Media Head and Director of Information, the Judiciary, Abia State and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, Hon. Justice SMC Ururuka-Onyesoh, recalled with nostalgia that she constituted and inaugurated the Honourable Court pursuant to the powers granted her Office under the Customary Court Laws and other Laws enabling her in that regard.

She paid glowing tribute to Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and the State House of Assembly for approving the establishment of the Court.

Hon. Justice Ururuka-Onyesoh specially thanked the member Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Okoroafor and the Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary and Justice as well as his Bende North State Constituency counterpart, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu for their roles in realizing the goal of actualizing the Court.
She charged the people of Ugwueke to see the Honourable Court as their bonafide property meant to serve them.

In their separate remarks the elated Hon. Emeka Okoroafor, the House Committee Chairman for Judiciary and Justice said it is their expectation that justice be brought closer to the people and appreciated Hon. Justice Ururuka-Onyesoh for her unwavering interest in the development of the Court.

Similarly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu representing Bende North State Constituency (who attracted the Hon. Court to Ugwueke), alluded with joy that it is the duty of the House of Assembly and the President to expand and bring justice closer to the people.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Ikpeazu and Hon. Justice SMC Ururuka-Onyesoh for the realization of the Court project.

In their various speeches also, the President General of Ugwueke Development Union, Igwe Gideon Elekwa, and Eze Ifeanyichukwu Owo described the establishment and inauguration of the Ugwueke Customary Court as the dawn of a new era in Isieke Amaba and Ugwueke in general and commended the efforts of their son and member in the Abia State House, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal for the realization of the Court.
They promised to relocate the Court to a more befitting and permanent edifice for the smooth operations of the Court.

The event attracted dignitaries from all walks of life including the members of the House of Assembly, the traditional institutions among others.
