To improve the Abia State engineering services and delivery and by extension quality infrastructure for the State, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Umuahia branch has called for a collaboration and partnership with her parent ministry, the Ministry of Works.

Presenting an address on behalf of Engr. Mrs Ifeanyi-Madu Angela, the NSE Umuahia branch Chairman, during a familiarization visit to the Ministry, the Secretary, Engr. Enyinnaya Romanus passionately appealed for the reestablishment of Engineering Centre in Umuahia, that was once established at the premises of old Ministry of Works.

The NSE Umuahia branch Chairman also called for a synergy between the Ministry, the NSE and Council for the Regulation of Engineering Nigeria, COREN on project and engineering personnel monitoring and supervision to ensure total complaince and adherence to standard and specifications; partnership with the branch on the Ministry’s Engineers staff training and retraining and Engineering Professionals Society and Association workshop and conferences sponsorship of the Engineers in the Ministry and support to the branch.

Engr. Enyinnaya, Romanus.o.reiterated that Engineers remained solution providers and are equipped to propel the socioeconomic development of any society if adequately carried along.

While felicitating the Ministry for the great strides and work being done by the government through proper utilization of the vibrant and energetic Engineers in the Ministry as well as the branch, the NSE Umuahia branch Chairman noted that the construction of Aba road in Umuahia, duly supervised by engineers in the Ministry, the durability and quality of the delivery still speaks for itself.

Lending his voice, a former Chairman of the Society, Engr. Victor Ihediwa passionately requested the new Commissioner, Chief Cosmos Ndukwe to urge the State government to give COREN a date for the inauguration of the State Technical Committee and Expatriate Engineering Monitoring and Regulation Committee.

Ihediwa who decried that Abia State is losing in National value, pointed out that the State is missing in the Federal Government’s COREN budgetory allocation.

Responding, the newly installed Abia State Commissioner for Works, Chief Cosmos Ndukwe appreciated the NSE Umuahia branch for the visit and assured that their request will form part of their the Ministry’s memo in the next State Executive meeting.

He maintained that any government that wants to make a meaningful impact needs to carry the Engineers along.

The past Chairmen of the NSE Umuahia branch who include: Engr. Mathew Ibeh; Engr. Uzoma Ohia among other Engineers attended the meeting.
