History was made on Friday 25th February 2022 at the Umunna Bende NYSC Abia State Permanent Orientation Camp, as the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS through the Federal Medical Center Umuahia, formally took over the management of the camp clinic.

This development is coming on the heels of the Memorandum of Understanding recently reached by the Director General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim with NHIS.

With this development, the camp clinic will now fully be run by medical personnel  from the Federal Medical Centre in addition to all prospective corps members being registered into the NHIS scheme, a programme, according to the MoU that will end in three weeks after the corps members end of service passing-out.

Speaking during the taking over of the clinic, the State Coordinator NHIS Abia State, Mr Eke Carmellus, said that the MoU is a full package which will see her organisation, through the Federal Medical Center Umuahia, take full charge of the camp clinic, with the provision of drugs, personal and upgrade of facilities in the camp clinic.

He used the opportunity to introduce the medical personnel, including a Doctor, nurse, Lab Scientist and Pharmacist, who will be resident on camp to attend to the medical needs of the corps members. Drugs, also were supplied by the team, during the brief taking over ceremony.

Responding, the State Coordinator, NYSC Abia, Mr Jingi Denis expressed joy over the development.

He thanked the NYSC DG for  pulling through the NYSC/NHIS MoU, which he said is capable of improving the welfare and Health Services of the scheme to corps members.

With the State Coordinator at event was the Camp Director,  Mrs Nkechi Goddy- Ekezie, who took the team round the clinic, the Resident Officer, Mrs, Grace Effiong, the Team Lead NYSC South East Area office, Mr Monday Osaimoje, and the Head of Camp Clinic, Pastor Chinedu Ndulue.
