NHFSS visits FRSC, NSCDC, seeks collaboration

The Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, Abia State Command has expressed its willingness to partner with the Federal Road Safety Commission and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in their primary functions of protection of pipelines from vandalism, crisis resolutions, securing lives of motorists and protection of lives and property in conjunction with the Nigeria Police Force.

In an address presented respectively by the NHFSS State Commander of Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Services, NHFSS, Sunday Chukwudiegwu Mmeribe during the courtesy visits to the Sector Commander, FRSC RS 9.3 Abia State, Corps Commander Paul Ikechukwu Ugwu; and the NSCDC State Commandant, Muhammad Hassan Sanyinna, Mmeribe said the NHFSS was born to detect and prevent crimes and illegal activities within the forest and responsible for preventing and combating forest crimes, preventing bush and forest fires, investigating and arresting person suspected to be involved in forest crimes.

Mmeribe who was accompanied by the National patron and Southeast head of NHFSS patrons, and also the President General of Igbo World Union, His Imperial Majesty, Sir Mishak Nnanta and other members of the security outfit, said the personnel work with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies as forest security network due to their knowledge of the terrain, provide relevant information on encroachment and partner with stakeholders on community policing.

He said that the move for the partnership was part of NHFSS aspirations to make Abia State one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.

Responding, Sector Commander, FRSC RS 9.3 Abia State, Corps Commander Paul Ikechukwu Ugwu, described the move for collaboration to secure the environment by the NHFSS as apt and timely, observing that most crimes are carried out on the roads and the perpetrators most times run inside the bush and forest as a refuge or safety camp.

He maintained that no single security agency has the monopoly of getting the job done well effectively and efficiently without the collaboration of the other sister agencies.

“Don’t fail to share intelligence with us because when we collaborate, it gives an edge over people working against the peace of the State. We will partner with you”, Ugwu assured the NHFSS.

Also in his response, the NSCDC State Commandant, Muhammad Hassan Sanyinna who appreciated the efforts of the NHFSS towards securing the forest, assured a maximum collaboration with the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Service.
