The Abia State Government has stated that the movement of people and vehicles during the Month of March, 2023 monthly sanitation exercise would be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

The Month of March sanitation exercise will come up on Saturday, 25th March, 2023.

A press release signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Sam Nwogu, and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, informed the officers of the Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment.

The release encouraged the Transition Committee Chairmen of the Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations to mobilize their members, subjects and citizens for the exercise and participate actively too.

The release read in parts, “The general public is hereby informed that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of March holds on Saturday  March 25, 2023 in Abia State between the hours of 9 am and 11am.

“People are to stay at home, clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask”.

The release warned that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.

Meanwhile, all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies  as well as business premises will be closed on Friday March 24 ,2023 between the hours of 7am and 9am to enable them carry out their own cleanup exercise.
