Some perceived wild elements in the Nigerian Army bared their ugly fangs, Saturday, November 26, 2022 during the monthly sanitation exercise in Abia State.

Obi-Maduka addressing the newsmen shortly after the incident

Reports say a lady friend (name yet to be known) of a soldier (whose identity is also yet to be made available) was caught by the environmental sanitation enforcement officers, defaulting during the time of the cleanup exercise and was brought to the sanitation court sitting inside the premises of the State Ministry of Environment, Umuahia for trial.

The report had it that the lady who felt she was above the law, put a call across to the military male friend, who stormed the premises with his friends and without much fact-findings, bounced on the enforcement officers and others, threatening the sitting with their guns, flogging a hell out of them and also setting other defaulters free.

Recall that the Abia State Ministry of Environment through a press release signed by Chief Sam Nwogu and made available to newsmen read, “The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment” and furtherdirected that people are to stay at home, clean up their areas as defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law”.

Reacting to the ugly development,  Chief Sam Nwogu represented by the Deputy Director, Environmental Health and Pollution Control, Ministry of Environment, Mrs Obi-maduka Ihuaku wondered why the military who should have joined the Ministry to promote and make the cleanup exercise a success in the state would decide to play a “spoiler game”.

He disclosed plans to write a detailed report to the appropriate offices, notifying them of what happened during the cleanup exercise and the law court session invasion by the soldiers.
