Markets, Motor parks to remain closed on Friday, As Abia holds sanitation exercise on Saturday


The Abia State Ministry of Environment has directed that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies  as well as business premises should remain closed on Friday December 16, 2022 between the hours of 7am and 9am to carry out the month of December clean-up exercise.

Making this known in a press release he made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sam Nwogu also announced to the general public that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of December will hold on Saturday December 17, 2022 between the hours of 9 am and 11am.

The release required Executive Chairmen of the Local Government Councils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in the state to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.

The release further stipulated that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.

The release also stated that the Nigeria police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps will assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment, as defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
