Include Photography In The School Curriculum, APPAS Asks Govt


The Association of Professional Photographers, APPAS Abia State has passionately appealed to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to make the teaching and learning of Photography an integral part of learning process, as the state is revamping technical education.

In his address during a courtesy visit to the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the APPAS President, Comrade Dende Dende also asked the NYSC to incorporate photography in their artisan scheme.


Dende who disclosed the readiness of the association to have a 21st century Photographic Villa, that will house an auditorium, a photo gallery, studio, offices, cinema, executive chamber, recreation park among others, called on the government to, through the State Ministry of Education, add teaching of Photography in the technical curricular; and the politicians to consider photography as first option, when embarking on youth and women empowerment.

Dende who also informed the NUJ leadership of their forthcoming Photo Festival event tagged, “Marketing Abia in Pictures”, called for a synergy between the association and the NUJ.

Responding, the Abia State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Victor Ndukwe who exposed and expounded the importance of pictures in journalism and broadcasting, assured to sustain the existing synergy between the NUJ and APPAS.

The NUJ chairman commended the association for reaching out even as he promised that the union will work with the association to move the state forward.

On the reelection of the NUJ President, Comrade Ndukwe said that the Nigeria Journalists used that election to prove that the South East geopolitical zone can really produce a national leader who can stir the political ship of the Nigeria nation.

The NUJ Chairman vouched that the country’s economy as well as other sectors will witness a great turnaround as Ndigbo are known for their enterprising spirit.
