Help Sustain Our Polio Free Status, Rtn. Uhuaba, Visionary President, RC Umuahia Central Tells Abians, Nigerians


As the world observed the Year 2021 World Polio Day with the theme, “Delivering on a Promise”, the Visionary President, Rotary Club of Umuahia Central, District 9142, Rtn. Eugene Uhuaba has enjoined Nigerians to take the necessary precautionary measures in order not loose the gains achieved so far on polio eradication.

In his speech in Umuahia, Abia State during the event, Rtn. Uhuaba who went down memory lane to recall the ugly state poliomyelitis put the world, lauded the strides recorded by Rotary to curb the pandemic to a near zero around the world.

His words, “We have not forgotten in a hurry the devastating impact of poliomyelitis on humanity, its attendant morbidities and mortalities. We have not forgotten in a hurry the sufferings of children and families who could not help themselves. But hope arose when Rotary International brought hope and help to mankind through the funding of programmes leading to provision of Polio vaccine and other vigorous advocacy programmes and policies sustaining the uptake and utilization of the Polio vaccine”.

Rtn. Uhuaba who expressed joy that today Nigerian kids are free from the virus and Nigeria certified Polio free, solicited support for the inhabitants of Afghanistan and Pakistan who are still ravaged by the debilitating virus.

Rtn. Uhuaba maintained that Rotarians in Umuahia Central; in District 9142 and across the globe would continue to reach out to the affected countries until the whole world is certified polio free.
