Abians have been encouraged to keep their surroundings clean against the new wave of diseases like diphtheria.

Diphtheria is a highly infectious disease of the upper respiratory tract characterised by a sore throat, fever, and difficulty breathing. Its effects are due to a potent toxin secreted by a bacterium.
Addressing newsmen on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Sam Nwogu, shortly after the month of January Sanitation exercise, a Deputy Director, Environmental Health in the Ministry, Mrs. Obi-Maduka Ihuaku, said this has become imperative following the outbreak of the bacteria disease in some States across the Federation and the deplorable conditions of some homes in the State.
Obi-Maduka who harped on the need for Abians to maintain healthy environment, reiterated that diseases cannot thrive in such places.
She reminded Abians that cleanliness is next to Godliness, stating that the Coronavirus disease and now the latest diphtheria is still ravaging, stressing that the only way to check these diseases was to maintain personal hygiene and a healthy environment.
