Gospel Band Ministry Needs Discipline To Function Well – Anglican Bishop

By Our Reporter

The Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Anglican communion, The Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Ibeabuchi has stated that the Gospel Band Ministry, an important arm of the church and a part of the Liturgical Music Ministry needs discipline to function well.

To this end, he enjoined the band ministry to imbibe ethical principles of self-respect; humility and co-operation; uniformity and unity and avoid anti-social behaviours.

Speaking during the year 2021 DIOCESAN GOSPEL BAND SUNDAY at St. Stephen’s cathedral, Umuahia, The Rt. Rev’d Ibeabuchi reminded them that the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him and in those who hope in His mercy.

His words, “Often times, majority of them are carried away by worldliness and carnality. This is clearly seen through their dressing, appearance and even the type of songs rendered as praises to God. At times you are left to wonder if they know that they are serving God especially when they make demand for payments before and or after a service and how they fight and attack each other.

“As you lead the church in praises, know that your ministry is worthless without the fear of the LORD. Again, you cannot afford to be a sign post leading the church into God’s presence with songs of praise and thanksgiving while you remain untouched, untransformed and without a single testimony of God’s touch in your own life. Therefore, we encourage you to give God a space in your own life, accept Him as your only Lord and Saviour. Then your ministry will have a definition and you will inherit your reward from God.

The Anglican Bishop who called on the entire church to make out time to earnestly pray for members of the gospel band ministry across the Diocese, solicited financial support for the ministry, as appreciating their efforts at all levels in the Diocese would also boost their morale as they render services to God and His Church.
