Flooding: ABSG reveals plan to de-silt drainage systems


The Abia State Ministry of Environment has disclosed plans to de-silt drainage systems in the major cities of the State in a bid to checkmate the ugly menace of flooding.

To this end, the State Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Sam Nwogu represented by the Director Environmental Health and Pollution Control, Mr. Godson Agharanya has advised residents to keep the drainages clean and stop dumping refuse on the drainages.

Interacting with a cross section of Journalists shortly after monitoring the month of October Sanitation Exercise in Umuahia, Nwogu further warned groups who see the period of the cleanup exercise as a time to extort unsuspecting residents, disclosing that all touting activities during the exercise will soon be arrested.

He renewed call for more Environmental sanitation enforcement officers to assist sanitize the system through placing surveillance cameras on touts and touting activities.
