FG COVID-19 Intervention Fund: UCCIMA Encourages SMEs Operators, Hails ABSG
The President, Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, UCCIMA Chief CHIDI NKEM-ARUOMA has encouraged the Small and Medium Scale enterprises operators in Abia State to maximize the benefits attached to the Federal Government COVID-19 intervention funds to yield positive results that are verifiable and measurable with huge impact.
Recall that shortly after Abia State Commissioner for Small, Medium Scale Enterprise and New Business Development, Lady Adaku Uwaoma Oseiza announced that the State is targeting more than ten thousand Abians that will benefit from the relief funds, artisans and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) operators went into joyful mode and mood.
Lady Adaku Uwaoma Oseiza had also said that the Ministry, with the approval of the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has attracted the attention and consideration of Central Bank of Nigeria to give Abians a targeted Credit Facility for SMEs and Households.
Speaking on this basis, the UCCIMA boss, Chief Chidi Aruoma informed that the COVID-19 pandemic grossly visited the SMEs operators with loss of competent staff resulting from reduction in staff salary; low revenue or income generation; lack of patronage; inability to pay salaries; repay loans and rent.
He recalled that UCCIMA had suggested that government should introduce a well monitored and structured palliative schemes; poverty alleviation programmes; reduced interest rates, relax loans and defer tax payments.
While appreciating Gov. Ikpeazu, the Ministry of Small, Medium Scale and New Business Development for the programme, he expressed optimism that the relief funds would greatly assist the SMEs operators survive this trying times.
