Eze Ajomiwe Loses Farmland, Structure To Strange Inferno, As Oriendu autonomous community Celebrates Ekpe festival

Tract housing and a farmland, belonging to former Chairman, Umuahia North Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Pastor Philip Ajomiwe has been gutted by fire.

The farmland and the structure which is housing the best convenience, a borehole, conference hall and security house, located at Ubani-Ibeku International Market, a few kilometres away from Umuahia, capital city of Abia State, was said to have gone up in flames last week.

Though no one could ascertain the cause of the fire, but the inferno reportedly burnt some parts of the farmland and the tract housing, damages placed at N40 million.

Meanwhile, Eze Ajomiwe, who is also the traditional ruler of Oriendu Autonomous Community, Umuahia North L.G.A of Abia state has predicted more hardship and food shortage in the country if insecurity persists.

Speaking during the 2023 Ekpe festival celebrated at Oriendu market square, the traditional ruler said, if nothing is done to checkmate the rising cases of insecurity and increase in the cost price of fertilizers, seedlings and other farm inputs, that there might be shortage of food.

Eze Ajomiwe asserted that for the Southeast to be great in farming, the region needs to embrace mechanised farming and reafforestation but regretted that the Federal Government and Governors of the zone are not looking towards that direction.

Eze Ajomiwe called on both the federal and state government to fight insecurity to its barest minimum, invest in farming to provide the enable environment and subsidised farm implements to farmers.

He revealed that Ekpe festival in the community is an age long festival that has united the people together, adding that their children who stays in diaspora and outside the shores of Nigeria, return to celebrate it.

Eze Ajomiwe boasted that Ekpe Oriendu is the best in the entire Umuahia as it is digitalised and well packed, revealing further that he was the first person that showcased the festival in NTA in 1986 after he united the Ekpe festival.

On the 2023 general election, the Royal father who also bestowed ‘Akubaraoha’ title on the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly and PDP candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, expressed optimism that the forthcoming election will spring up surprises as people are no longer going to vote parties but individuals in their various parties.

He said, Abians are no longer interested in voting for candidates of any party but rather are looking round the parties and selecting candidates they have tested and are sure will deliver the dividend of democracy.

“We are no longer interested in parties but individuals, it is no longer what you are going to do but what you doing already. When you talk of Ohuhu people, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Engr. Chindeum Orji who is contesting for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency has done well, Akachukwu the team Nwa-Abia movement contesting for the State House of Assembly under APP has also done well, we will look out for your achievement before casting our votes”.

The traditional ruler who also described the Permanent Voter Cards as a weapon to change maladministration and poor leadership, called on Nigerians to go and get their PVCS, to change Nigeria for good.

“Do not watch and complain, look out for that Candidate that can change Nigeria, that can bring you out from this current economic hardship, insecurity and the gradual loss of our currency”

Eze Ajomiwe, the Ndu 1 of Oriendu autonomous community who also urged securitymen to fish out the unknown gunmen ravaging the Southeast, also called for proper investigation of crimes levelled against the IPOB even when IPOB comes out to deny most of the allegations.

 “If you are a youth and you have problem they will tag you IPOB”, he lamented.
