Desist from meddling in local politics, NYSC DG warns 1216 Corps members posted to Abia Communities

NYSC Corps members posted to Abia State Communities have been enjoined to desist from meddling in local politics but to religiously integrate into their host communities and help to uplift their living standard.

The Director General, NYSC,Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed who gave the charge, Tuesday, in the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna, in Bende L.G.A, of Abia State during a low keyed closing ceremony of the 2023 BATCH ‘A’ STREAM I orientation course, encouraged the Corps members to undertake personal and group Community Development Service Projects in their host Communities.
The NYSC DG those address was read by the Abia State Coordinator, Mrs Dick-Iruenabere Ufuoma urged them to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work and resilience, which they imbibed during the Orientation Course, adding, “It is my ardent hope that you will strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of our dear country, as you begin the next phase of the Service”.
His words, “My dear compatriots, as you are already aware, the 2023 General Elections are around the corner. As was the case with the previous elections conducted from 2008, Corps members will form the majority of ad hoc personnel that will be enlisted for the conduct of the exercise. It will interest you to know that the performance of your predecessors contributed to the credibility of the previous elections, and earned NYSC accolades from both local and foreign observers.
” Therefore, I enjoin you to take a cue from them by performing the election duties with high sense of responsibility. You are to ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and, especially, remain neutral throughout the exercise. As you get set to partake in this important national assignment, I would like to assure you that we have secured the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies regarding your welfare and safety before, during and after the elections”.
He enjoined them to perform their duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.
A total of 1216 corps members participated in the orientation excercise, made up of 574 males and 642 females.

Notable dignitaries like the Camp Director, Mr David Okoye; the Camp Commandant, Major HI Emeruwa; Resident Officer 1, Mr Adedotun Adegboyega; the representative of the NYSC Area Director, Mr Mohammed Isah; Head of Police: ASP CC Njoku; Head Civil Defence: ASC1 EO Oluchi; Head of NDLEA: Supritendent of Nacotics, Uche Charles; Head of Fire Service, Mr MacDonald Agu; Head of Red Cross, Mr Victor Okorie Okorofor among others attended.
