Corruption Has Impeded Efforts Towards The Reengineering Of The Nigerian State – Bishop Onuoha

By Our Reporter

Bishop Sunday Onuoha, President and founder, Vision Africa International and Co-Chair, Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace, said corruption has continued to impede any effort made toward the re-engineering of the Nigerian State.

Bishop Onuoha who decried the level of corruption in the country, Tuesday, in Abuja while presenting a paper at the Nigerian University Scholars in Religion, NUSREL titled “The Role Of Religion In The Socio-Religious Transformation Of  Nigeria”, frowned that many governments have made claims and promises which suggest that the welfare of the citizenry is paramount in their agenda, but in reality, these promises were not delivered.

Bishop Onuoha who also berated the level of exclusion in the country, encouraged goverment at all levels to place humanity above any consideration or bias that tends to destroy harmonious co-existence.

The Global Peace Award Winner 2013, called for synergy between those in government and the citizenry towards promotion of good governance, justice and equity for all, stressing that all should be carried along in order to achieve a just society where all will be comfortable.

While advising that no citizen should be excluded irrespective of his/her religious inclination, status, political position, among others, Bishop Onuoha maintained that religion is the only instrument that provides hope and optimism to people in spite of failed government and economic institutions in Nigeria in particular, and West Africa in general.

According to him, religion aids in the formation of social structures and development of individual and corporate spirituality; plays a huge role in fostering values, such as honesty, integrity, openness, forthrightness and tolerance which are inimical to the development and transformation of good economic, political, social and cultural system of Nigeria.
