Building A People Of Peace: NOA to partner NHRC On Alternative Dispute Resolution

As part of preparation towards the actualisation of the forthcoming programme on building a people of peace tagged: Focusing on Misinformation, Disinformation, Fake-news and hate- speech, the management team of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Abia State Directorate, recently paid an advocacy visit to the State office of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC.

Speaking in Umuahia during the visit, the NOA State Director Mrs Regina Iroha, who described the visit as part of the Agency’s efforts to reach major and critical stakeholders, adding also that the visit to NHRC was also part of the build up to gather support of stakeholders in Abia Central Senatorial district.
The Abia State NOA Team leader therefore called for closer cooperation between the two agencies especially at this period that the Agency is championing a campaign on misinformation, disinformation, fack-news and hate- speech.

She said the social justice unit of the NOA can effectively partner with the NHRC in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism.
The NOA Director used the occasion to invite the NHRC to the forthcoming campaign against misinformation, disinformation, fack-news and hate-speech scheduled to be hosted in the state next week.
In her response, the NHRC State Coordinator, Barr. Mrs Uche Nwokocha, commended the National Orientation Agency Abia State Directorate for her commitment in sensitising and mobilising Abians and for coming up with such a loudable programme.
She called for the strengthening of the already existing synergy between the two Federal Government Agencies.

Barr Nwokocha plegded to partner with the Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOs) of the Agency at the Local Government Areas in fast tracking and transmitting cases of human rights violations to the State office of the NHRC.
