Be worthy role models, Christian fathers told…As CMO, St. Michael’s Catholic Parish celebrates 2023 Father’s day

The Abia State Chapter President of the Nigeria Christian Youth Forum, NYCF Comrade Eugene Okonta has encouraged fathers to consider some of the characteristics that set Christ apart and use them as a model for leading their lives.

Speaking to our correspondent shortly after the year 2023 Father’s Day Celebration of Catholic Men Organization, CMO of St. Michael’s Catholic Parish, Ossah road, Umuahia, Abia State, which also featured special recognition and award presentations and fund raising for evangelical bus, Comrade Okonta who reminded fathers of their roles as leaders and defenders of the home, encouraged them to continue persevering by putting their trust in God and St Joseph, their patron saint.

Okonta, who is also the event’s planning committee chairman disclosed that the event was geared towards celebrating the bond and unity among men.

One of the award recipient (Light of the Church), Dr. Eugene Uhuaba who highlighted the importance of the Father’s Day celebration to honour and celebrate fathers who are often overlooked by society, maintained that celebrating fathers is a more substantial way of valuing them than waiting for society or families to acknowledge them.

He described the “LIGHT OF THE CHURCH AWARD” given to him as a testament of his dedication and service towards the growth of the Universal Church, adding that “It  just a tonic to do more in the service of God and mankind”.

In their respective speeches, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Christopher Onyemachi; Sir Monday Edeh, Chairman Parish Council and Sir Victor Atuegbu, Chairman Parish CMO appreciated the fathers and the ‘Ide’ Of the Catholic Church and Light of the Church award recipients who include: the immediate past Honourable Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah; Member-elect, Umuahia Central State Constituency, Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Anthony Chinasa (Abiola) among others, reminding them that to whom much is given, much is expected.

They also enjoined them to be a true/good representative of the Church, even as they appreciated the Parish priest for his pragmatic way of doing things.

Earlier in his homily, a visiting priest and Vice Rector 2, Seat of Wisdom Major Seminary Owerri, Imo State, Rev. Fr. Louismary Ocha, who exposed and expounded the virtues and roles of a Christian father in a home, encouraged the CMO to take charge and perform their duties optimally.

He equally tasked mothers to assist in homebuilding, respect and take care of their husbands.
