ASUBEB Boss Pays Working Visit To Umuahia South LGEA, Harps On Leadership Integrity
As part of its efforts to boost the educational system and standard in Abia State in line with the vision of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, the Executive Chairman, Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB Elder Josiah Okechukwu Anonaba and his team has embarked on a working visit to the Education Authorities across the 17 L.G.As of the State.
Speaking during the visit at Umuahia South LGEA, Elder Anonaba said the visit is one of his administration’s leadership attempts to express the burning desire to make something good happen in LGEAs, change the way things are, and to have a dialogue with the Education Secretaries, Head teachers and classroom teachers on how they can together create something more valuable in the mandate for Basic Education Management.
His words, “We have come to share our vision for the future, our aims and aspirations, our hopes and our dreams as school administrators.
“Our coming here is a part of our journey to improve the management discipline and the understanding that should govern the linkages in ASUBEB family that involves the Board, LGEAs, Head teachers and the Local Government administration. We intend to look for potential problems in our schools and opportunities for improvement”.
The ASUBEB Chairman who exposed and expounded the public expectations of the Education Secretaries, Head teachers and classroom teachers, made it clear that leadership demands a lot of intellectual qualities such as sound judgement, resourcefulness, initiative, broad-mindedness, originality and the ability to foresee and analyze problems.
He encouraged them to be humane while dealing with their staff and teachers and also enjoined the Head teachers to inculcate in the teachers “Common Sense Discipline”.
He informed that the Education friendly governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife, Mrs Nkechi Ikpeazu has moved all out to make the education sector a beautiful bride and to stand tall among equals.
Presenting a welcome address earlier, the Education Secretary, Umuahia South LGEA, Ezinne Nwosu Ihechiluru Comfort appreciated Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu for appointing Elder Anonaba as ASUBEB Chairman, adding, “We wish to express our profound gratitude to our amiable Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD and the wife Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, PhD for their confidence in us as well as ensuring that Basic Education sector is placed and managed by no other than an astute, accomplished academic and Man manager like you”.
Going down memory lane, while giving an account of stewardship, Ezinne Nwosu said, “When I assumed office as Education Secretary in this LGEA, I was handed over only 37 Primary Schools but today we have 44 primary schools, to the glory of God.
“Furthermore, following the disarticulation of Senior and Junior Secondary Schools, Umuahia South LGEA had only 13 Junior Secondary Schools but today we have 15 functional Junior Secondary Schools with Abia Technical and Skills Acquisition School, Mgbarakuma, Ubakala fully functional”.
The Umuahia South LGEA Education Secretary who lauded the ASUBEB Boss for applying his Midas touch on the school, which had been abandoned for over 12 years, expressed optimism that with God on his side, all the goals Elder Anonaba set out to achieve in the Board would be realized.
