Adhere strictly to the state basic environmental laws, Nwogu advises Abians…As fire torch fuel station


Mr Sam Nwogu, the Abia State Commissioner for Environment has decried the habit of not adhering to the state basic environmental laws.
To this end, he has encouraged Abian residents to always adhere to all government directives. 

Nwogu who gave the charge at the month of January sanitation exercise in Umuahia, Abia State capital, condemned the attitude of youths who play street football during the period of the exercise, advising them to rather clean their surroundings.

Nwogu also observed that tricycle operators,  motorists and other road users were moving about their businesses while shop owners opens up their businesses, which according to him should not be so.
Correspondent reports that most residents were attracted to a scene of fire outbreak that coincided with the incident.

Meanwhile, residents during the sanitation exercise, deserted Aba road close to Masters Energy fuel Station in umuahia as diesel-laden tanker exploded in the station.It was gathered that the petrol tanker was discharging disel to the underground tank at the filling station when fire was noticed under the truck and before the tanker was engulfed by fire.

The fire caused panic in the area as vehicles temporarily abandoned the road in front of the filling station while those living close to the scene fled to avoid being caught up in the explosion.

Firefighters were said to have been called.
