Abia State: Environmental Sanitation Exercise Holds Saturday, March 26
Executive Chairmen of the Local Government Coucils, Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth and Women Organizations in Abia state have been advised to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the monthly sanitation exercise, which comes up on every last Saturday of the month in the state.
The release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Barr. Sam Nwogu and made available to newsmen in Umuahia called on Abia residents to own the cleanup exercise and participate actively.
The release further stipulated that movement of people and vehicles during the period would be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.
The release partly read, “The general public is hereby informed that the monthly sanitation exercise for the month of March holds on Saturday, March 26,2022 in Abia State between the hours of 9am and 11am.
“All markets, motor Parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday, March 25, 2022 between the hours of 7am and 9am to carry out their own clean-up exercise.
“The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps are to assemble at their usual places of take off for deployment”.
The release which further directed that people are to stay at home and clean up their areas especially now there is a new variant of Corona virus, stated that any workforce during the exercise must not exceed ten people and must work with their nose mask as directed by government.
The release also informed Abians that defaulters would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
