The Abia State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to a crime free society.
To this end, the Command has successfully trained another batch of her Personnel on Light Arms and Weapons Handling.
Addressing the personnel (the Batch D codenamed DRAGON SQUAD) at the Command Headquarters, Umuahia after a successful Range Classifications Exercise at 5 Battalion, 145 Artillery Regiment, Elele, Rivers State, the State Commandant, Muhammad Hassan Sanyinna, pointed out that the training became necessary due largely to the Command’s determination to continue to effectively respond to the prevailing security challenges confronting the nation on one hand and the increasing demand for the Corps’ security services in the state as well as the pressure from the forthcoming 2023 general elections on the other.
Sanyinna, who also congratulated the Personnel on their safe arrival, said the decision to embark on the training was taken after securing the kind approval and support of the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
In his words, ” I want to sincerely thank our most amiable Commandant General for his unreserved commitment towards transforming the Corps to effectively tackle 21st century security challenges confronting our country, Nigeria. Your penchant for regular training/manpower development and staff welfare is quite unprecedented. Beyond your kind approval for the training, the Command appreciates your timely interventions and support which have been instrumental to the great feat we have so far recorded in fulfilling our mandates.
“I also want to congratulate you on your successful completion of your training on Light Arms and Weapons Handling as well as the Range Classifications Exercise. To God be the glory that no casualty was recorded. Now that you have by this training joined the noble but highly tasking league of Arm Bearers,I charge you to remain humane in dealing with law abiding citizens, patriotic in the service to your fatherland and diligent in putting to practice those things you have learned in the course of your training”.
Speaking further, the Abia NSCDC Boss said, ” remember that the bullets are meant for the enemies of the State . You have been further empowered to protect lives and Critical National Assets and Infrastructures. The Corps frowns at the strange phenomenon called Accidental Discharge. It is not in NSCDC vocabulary and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) hence, cannot be condoned”.
Meanwhile, in a press release made available to newsmen by SC Ndukwe Agu Egwu, Civil Defence PRO Abia State Command on behalf of the State Commandant, stated that Commandant Sanyinna since assumption of office in July, 2022 has embarked on programmes targeted at improving the Command’s security services delivery which is also responsible for the increasing performance rating in its favour in the state.
The release read, “The latest of these performance induced programmes is the Light Arms and Weapons Handling training in which the Command successfully partnered with the Nigerian Army. He has also embarked on aggressive maintenance of all serviceable operational vans to enhance security services delivery in the state.
