Abia NAWOJ celebrate girls on International Day of the Girl Child 2022


The Chairperson, Caretaker Committee of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Mrs Oluchi Lechi-Ikechukwu has reiterated the need for parents to make their girl child available for proper education, training as well as other values that will make them be useful in life.

Addressing the students of Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School, Ugwunchara, Umuahia, during the 2022 International Day for Girl Child, Mrs Ikechukwu who described Girl Child as a future mother, called on parents and the government to give the necessary attention to the welfare of the young ones.

 Mrs Lechi-Ikechukwu who also described the theme of the event, “Our time is now: Our Right, Our Future” as unique and motivational to young ladies , challenged them to take their studies seriously as well as to be humble.

She noted that the event is targeted at recognizing gender equality and the importance of girl child in society.

She also commended the management of the Holy Rosary Girls Secondary school for their tenacity in enhancing the school to the best standard in academic prowess.

Responding, the Principal, Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School, Ugwunchara, Umuahia, The Rev. Sister Mary Charlesbrigid Okorie commended the leadership of NAWOJ in the State for the gesture and promised to put in their best to train the students in the way of God.

While appreciating the Interim Committee of Abia NAWOJ for the sensitization outreach in a brief remark, the School Director of Social, Mrs Ijeoma Perer called on them not to relent in their efforts to show love and compassion to humanity.

The customized exercise books

The members of the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists donated customised exercise books to the students during the event.
