Abia D.Gov. Chairs SARSAC

The Eleven man Council members of State Road Safety Advisory Council, SARSAC has been inaugurated officially with the Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu to serve as its Chairman.

Speaking while inaugurating the members at the Government House, Umuahia, the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu said the inauguration has become necessary having recognized the importance the Federal and State Governments attached to the protection of lives and property as it affects transportation, negligence on the part of motorists in order to minimize the high rate of road accidents and loss of lives.

The Governor  further disclosed that the inauguration was aimed to assist the Road Safety Corps to actualize the objectives of their existence and set State Road Safety Strategy targets in line with the Nigerian Road Safety Strategy (NRSS) as well as drive its implementation.

He named other key responsibilities of the State Road Safety Advisory Council to include invitation of relevant agencies to defend proposed activities and road Safety efforts on a quarterly basis, evaluation of the outcome of the National road safety initiatives, development of a founding plan for progress reports from relevant agencies as well as ensure adequate representation of the State at the national Technical working Group among others.

Gov. Ikpeazu tasked them to ensure adequate coodination between the State and Local Governments in achieving Safety targets.

Responding on behalf of other Council members, the Secretary of the State Road Safety Advisory Council and Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr Paul Ugwu thanked Government for finding them worthy to be of service in their various capacities and promised to assiduously to represent the State positively.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Sir Don Ubani, Body of Permanent Secretaries and other top Government Officials were present during the visit.
