A Family Fun Day As RC Umuahia Govt. House Celebrates Family Of Rotary Day


Rotary Club of Umuahia Government House, District 9142, Thursday, observed the Year 2021 Family of Rotary Day celebration at the VIP Sit Out, Abia Hotels, Umuahia, Abia State.

Rotarians came to the event, which also marked the end of the first half of Rotary Year with their family members, guests and friends and; were treated with sumptuous varieties of ready food dishes and drinks.

In a brief speech, the Visionary President of the Club, Rtn. Emeka Wachuku disclosed that the family and Rotary is closely knitted and would never operate in isolation, hence the efforts of Rotarians to incorporate their families into Rotary activities.

Rtn. Wachuku maintained that if Rotarians were to live out the Rotary ideal, to create a better world, they must start with the family.

Furthermore, he harped the need to care for all the members of Rotary family, as according to him, “without each other there is no community”.

Rtn. Wachuku used the forum to encourage Club members to always wear the Rotary Pin, which he described as a symbol of a Rotarian’s commitment to Serve Above Self.

“Our Rotary pin is a reminder that as a Rotarian, we have an obligation to serve humanity. It is also for publicity of Rotary, for pride, for acceptance and recognition, for the start of easy conversation with other Rotarians wherever you go. Wearing a Rotary Fellowship pin shows a Rotarian’s vocation also, Rtn. Wachuku buttressed further.

Speaking also, the Assistant Governor zone 5 Rtn. Ekele Ochiabuto who paid a glowing tribute to the Club’s benefactor and a Past Assistant Governor, late Rtn. Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, challenged members not to allow the Club die, if they truly love the deceased.

He enjoined them to continue to promote Rotary as the Club is very credible with robust history of doing good to the society.
While highlighting the essence of building friendship and fellowship, Rtn. Ochiabuto reminded the Club members that Rotary is all about extending hands of help to the needy.

Lending her voice, the District Governor Elect, Rtn. Grace Okaro who x-rayed the importance of Family of Rotary Day and how it came to limelight, disclosed her vision to have a uniform Family of Rotary Day celebration in Umuahia, come 2022 – 2023 Rotary Year.

DGE Okaro who also informed that Rotary through its selfless activities, provides for all the segment of the family, encouraged Club members to ensure that their children passed through the Club’s EarlyAct; Interact; Rotaract and Rotary stages.

According to her, the mission and operation of EarlyAct are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provides the foundation and naturalsuccession into Interact, Rotaract and Rotary.
