Trailblazer! Varsity Purchases Fire Fighting Equipment, Employs And Train Operators

As part of effort to assist government at all levels fight incidents of fire outbreaks as well as fulfill some of their corporate social responsibilities, Gregory University Uturu, has purchased a fire fighting equipment, employed and trained staff to operate it.


While inspecting the equipment and the demonstration of the trained personnel, the Vice Chancellor Professor Augustine Uwakwe, remarked that, “This is a private individual’s effort to assist government and humanity in ensuring fire safety not just within the school but in the entire Abia North Senatorial zone.

Prof. Umekwe who commended the founder of Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Gregory Ibe for preparing wisely for the future, said, ” I think this should be the first operational fire service office to be established in this zone.


His words, ” Prof. Ibe is a man of vision who thinks ahead of others. He did not only purchase the equipment but employ and trained the employees that would operate the machine. This is very commendable and shows that indeed Gregory University Uturu is a trail blazer”.


The Vice Chancellor thanked the staff of the Federal fire service who came to train the operators of the equipment and noted their actions demonstrated passion for the fire fighting job.

He enjoined the trainees to take advantage of  the training to be better equipped for the job and also assured them that their welfare remained a top priority of the institution.


In a brief speech, the leader of the team from Federal fire service, Deputy supertendent, Onwanachibe, commended the Proprietor of the University, Professor Gregory Ibe, for establishing a fire fighting service office in Uturu, Abia State.


Onwanachibe who observed that many state owned Universities have not been able to achieve this fit, also commend the trainees for their ability to grapple with the rudiments of fire fighting training within a short period.

The deputy supertendent Onwanachibe, who could not also hide his feelings after going round the campus, said, “I lack words to really explain what I am seeing here on ground. In fact, it is only the grace of God, His intervention and direction for an individual to put this thing we are seeing here. The God that have directed Prof Ibe to achieve this, will continue to sustain him. Our prayer is that, God should keep on helping him, give him good health, strength and the resources to continue to help mankind. He should keep on doing what he is doing, there is no greater help to humanity than this”.


“By establishing, buying the fire fighting truck, employing and training staff, Abia North people can now leverage on the existence of an agency like this in there locality anytime they have fire issues”, one of the elated personnel also pointed out.
