On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the second batch of the Senator Austin Akobundu Tech Training Program, known as “Sen. Austin Akobundu Project Empower 1000 Abia Central Youths with Digital Skills,” gathered at NostroCom House in Umuahia for an onboarding session. This followed a rigorous six-day online orientation course.

The onboarding process, which included physical screening and a computer appreciation course, allowed trainees to meet their facilitators and gain foundational computer knowledge. This was particularly beneficial for participants with limited prior experience.

Mr. Aaron Elekwachi, Special Assistant to Sen. Akobundu and project coordinator, addressed the participants, emphasizing the Senator’s vision to empower 1,000 youths across the 62 wards in Abia Central Senatorial District, with three youths selected per ward.

Each batch according to him, consists of 186 trainees, with the program divided into six batches to meet the target.

“The vision of the Senator is to empower 1,000 youths, but we cannot accommodate them all at once, so we divided the program into batches. In every batch, we empower 186 youths until we reach our goal. This training focuses on Tech and ICT skills,” Elekwachi explained.

He urged trainees to focus on acquiring skills rather than material gains, highlighting that the training, offered freely by the Senator, is a valuable opportunity.

“The courses, spanning six weeks, include Data Science, Software Development, Graphics Design, Web Design, Forex Trading, and Digital Marketing, with each trainee selecting one course”, he explained further.

Participants, including Mr. Nwamara Asonye, expressed gratitude to the Senator for providing this opportunity and fostering a mindset geared towards achieving their dreams.
