In a heartfelt appeal during the 2025 National Bible Sunday commemoration in Umuahia, Rev. Dr. Blessed Amalambu, Assistant Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Southeast zone, encouraged Christians to attend church services, express gratitude for the scriptures, and engage in Bible study.
Rev. Amalambu, who also serves as the Abia State executive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Secretary of the Abia State chapter of PFN, emphasized the importance of setting aside work and family obligations to honour this special day.
National Bible Sunday, observed annually on the fourth Sunday of January, serves as a day of thanksgiving for the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. This year, it falls on January 26.
Rev. Amalambu urged believers to don their best attire and join fellow worshippers in celebrating the gift of the Bible, which offers guidance and nourishment to humanity.
According to the records available, the tradition of National Bible Sunday dates back to the 1549 publication of the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, which included study verses and prayers for each Sunday. The initiative aimed to deepen commitment to Bible study and fellowship with God. The observance has since spread beyond Anglican parishes to various denominations worldwide, celebrated on different dates and sometimes on days other than Sundays.
Rev. Amalambu’s message resonates with Christians, reminding them to dust off their Bibles and delve into its teachings, whether alone or with family and friends, in a spirit of reflection and gratitude.
