On Friday, January 24th, 2025, the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende LGA, Abia State, was alive with anticipation as the 2024 Batch “C” Stream II Corps Members were officially inducted.
The event marked a significant milestone in the lives of these young Nigerians, as they embarked on their service year journey.
Governor Alex Otti, in a warm address, welcomed the Corps Members to Abia State, emphasizing the pivotal role of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in promoting national unity and development.
He congratulated the new inductees for their academic achievements and acknowledged the sacrifices made by their families.
Highlighting the importance of their posting to Abia State, Governor Otti who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, urged the Corps Members to contribute to the state’s progress rather than seeking relocation.
He assured them of the state’s dedication to their welfare and security, promising a supportive environment throughout their service year.
The Governor also outlined the state’s tradition of rewarding exceptional service with opportunities such as automatic employment, scholarships, and business grants.
He encouraged active participation in Community Development Services (CDS) and primary assignments, underscoring the potential for personal and professional growth.
Governor Otti who officially opened the orientation course, expressed gratitude to the Corps Members for choosing to serve in Abia State.
He wished them a successful and enriching experience, reinforcing the state’s commitment to nurturing their potential.
The Commissioner for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the critical role of youth in national development.
He urged the Corps Members to engage fully in the orientation course, which prepares them for future challenges.
Sir Ananaba praised the administration of Dr. Alex Otti for its investment in the NYSC program, encouraging the Corps Members to initiate meaningful community projects.
He promised recognition and rewards for outstanding contributions, highlighting the state’s commitment to youth development.
Earlier in her address, Barr. Mrs. Gladys Adama, the State Coordinator of NYSC Abia, expressed her joy in welcoming the new Corps Members to “God’s Own State.”
She extended gratitude for the safe arrival of all participants and guests, emphasizing the orientation course’s role in nation-building.
Mrs. Adama commended the Corps Members for their discipline and eagerness to learn, urging them to participate actively in camp activities.
She highlighted the government’s support, including camp rehabilitation and infrastructure improvements, as a testament to its commitment to excellence.
The ceremony concluded with a call to action for the Corps Members to dedicate themselves to selfless service. The event was a testament to Abia State’s dedication to fostering excellence and hard work among its youth, aiming for the betterment of Nigeria.
The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Hon. Justice Benson Anya who represented the Honourable Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai, who also administered the oath of allegiance, marking the beginning of a promising journey for the 1800 new Corps Members.
