In an effort to enhance the educational system, the Abia State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, inaugurated a seven-member committee on January 24, 2025.

This committee, led by Dr. Mrs. Uzoamaka Amah-Mbah , Secretary of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, is tasked with ensuring transparency in the teacher recruitment process within the state.

During the inauguration at his office, Commissioner Ubochi emphasized the administration’s commitment to equity, fairness, and transparency. He urged the committee to perform their duties impartially and collaborate effectively with the technical consultant to fulfill the Governor’s vision of hiring competent and qualified teachers.

The selection process, as outlined by the Commissioner, will be merit-based, requiring all applicants to undergo an examination following their online application.

The committee, according to the Commissioner, is expected to commence its duties immediately, adhering to the specified terms of reference.

Commissioner Ubochi expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for his dedication to the education sector, highlighted by the allocation of 20% of the state budget to education.

He pointed out that this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving educational standards.

Dr. Mrs. Uzoamaka Amah-Mbah, the committee’s Chair and Secretary of the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, thanked the Governor for his contributions to education.

She assured the Commissioner of the committee’s dedication to their responsibilities and their collaboration with the technical consultant to achieve the Governor’s educational goals.

The committee comprises members from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, ASUBEB, and SEMB, with Mrs. Onyeañuna Christy from SEMB serving as Secretary.

This initiative, as stated by Duru Marvellous, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, reaffirms the state government’s commitment to providing quality education for all students in Abia.
