Abia State Government has informed the public that the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for January will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Abia State from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In a press release issued by Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, the Commissioner for Environment, the government specifies that movement of people and vehicles will be restricted during this period, except for those on essential duties who must present valid identification or authorization upon request.

Local Government Council Executive Chairmen, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, and youth and women organizations are urged to monitor, sensitize, and participate in the exercise.

All markets, motor parks, and both private and public transport companies, along with business premises, are instructed to remain closed on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. to conduct their own clean-up activities.

The Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps are to assemble at their designated locations for deployment.

The release further instructs residents to stay home, clean their surroundings, and wear nose masks.

Violators according to the release will face arrest and prosecution under the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
