In a decisive move to uphold environmental standards, the Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, has issued a stern directive to hotel owners and managers, prohibiting the disposal of waste into roads, public drains, and gutters.

This announcement was made during a meeting organized by the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat in Umuahia.

Mr. Ogbonna emphasized that only waste deemed non-hazardous to the public and environment may be discharged into public drains.

He highlighted that one of the key objectives of State Governor Dr. Alex Otti is to foster a business-friendly environment, which necessitates adherence to acceptable environmental practices.

The Commissioner further revealed that the Ministry will actively monitor compliance with this directive across hotels and eateries in the state, promising strict action against violators.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ikechukwu Chidozie Oriuwa, along with other directors.
