The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, has inaugurated the newly elected executive members of the Abia State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON). During the ceremony, held in his office, he urged the new leaders to prioritize good governance, transparency, and accountability at the local government level.
Prince Nwachukwu emphasized that the election signifies a promising new chapter for the state. He congratulated the elected officials, highlighting their leadership qualities and the trust their colleagues have placed in them.
According to a press release by Nwachukwu Chinonso, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the body of mayors in the state elected Hon. Chinedu Ekeke, Mayor of Isuikwuato, as Chairman of ALGON, Abia State. The election saw overwhelming support from all 17 mayors in the state. Dr. Anthony Nwaubani of Ikwuano was elected Secretary, and Mr. Anyanwu Obilor, Mayor of Aba South, was chosen as Treasurer.
The newly inaugurated executives are expected to collaborate closely with Governor Dr. Alex Otti, who has pledged his support for local government development initiatives.
