Umuahia, Nigeria – January 15, 2025:

At the inaugural 2025 Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, held in Umuahia, distinguished guests Dr. Philips Nto, Rev. Dr. Blessed Amalambu, and Comrade Chidi Asonye delivered compelling addresses, urging journalists to embrace their influential role in society and explore agribusiness opportunities.

Dr. Philips Nto, Director of the Agribusiness Incubation Centre at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, emphasized the critical role of journalists as societal influencers.

He highlighted the NUJ’s pivotal contribution to Nigeria’s development and urged the media to uphold democracy by speaking truth to power.

Dr. Nto also encouraged journalists to explore agribusiness, presenting it as a strategic avenue for economic diversification and food security.

Rev. Dr. Blessed Amalambu, the guest preacher, drew inspiration from Ecclesiastes 9:10, urging journalists to pursue their profession with diligence and integrity.

He emphasized the importance of thoroughness and sincerity in journalism, advocating for professionalism in appearance and conduct.

Rev. Amalambu also stressed the necessity of divine protection in a profession that often exposes hidden truths.

Comrade Chidi Asonye, Chairman of the NUJ Abia State Council, pledged to elevate journalism practice to its rightful stature. He outlined plans for the year, emphasizing partnerships with various stakeholders and prioritizing journalists’ welfare.

Asonye assured members that their rights and interests would be safeguarded under his leadership.

The congress concluded with a call for unity and collaboration among journalists, underscoring the vital role of love and cooperation in overcoming challenges and fostering progress.
