In a heartwarming initiative, the Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Chioma Otti, has launched a program offering free round-trip transportation for nearly 1,000 citizens to return to their locations at no cost.

Recall that the government had also provided free transportation to citizens, reuniting them with their families during the festive season.

Speaking at the Abia Line Transport Company in Umuahia, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, Commissioner for Transport, assured that citizens unable to return on Sunday, January 12, 2025, would be transported back on Tuesday, January 14.

He emphasized the governor’s commitment to inclusivity and welfare, highlighting the program’s importance in addressing the needs of Abians.

This initiative, in collaboration with a reputable transport company, ensures safe and reliable transit for beneficiaries, coordinated through the leaders of various town unions and Abia State Liaison Offices, the commissioner also said.

He also encouraged beneficiaries to continue being good ambassadors of the state wherever they are.

Governor Otti’s empathetic leadership has been praised by community leaders, including Prince Ejituru Ikenga, President General of the Abia State Town Unions Association, Lagos State, and Mrs. Nwogu Bernadette, Women’s wing leader, who described the governor as a Godsend.

Chief Chidi Nkem Aruoma, President of the Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, lauded the governor’s dedication to inclusivity and welfare, underscoring the program’s significance in prioritizing the needs of Abians, especially the indigent population.

This annual gesture ensures that Abians without financial means can celebrate the festive season with their loved ones, with routes covering Kaduna, Jos, Kano, Niger, Maiduguri, Abuja, and Lagos.
