Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to honouring the sacrifices of veterans and active members of the armed forces, emphasizing that their contributions will not be overlooked.

During the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Church Service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Aguiyi Ironsi Layout, Umuahia, Governor Otti assured attendees of his dedication to recognizing the vital role these individuals play in safeguarding the nation. This was conveyed in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha.

Governor Otti paid tribute to the bravery and dedication of both veterans and current service members, acknowledging their invaluable service to the nation. He also recalled the tragic loss of armed forces personnel who were killed in the line of duty within the state, pledging that their sacrifices would be duly honored.

“We are grateful to those who ensure our safety, and we cannot take your sacrifices for granted. There is no gesture too great for these heroes of our time,” Otti declared.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of Abia for their support and promised continued delivery of democratic dividends, despite opposition propaganda. He urged the citizens to remain vigilant and wary of those feigning commitment to democracy.

“I urge everyone to stay alert. As the Bible says, the Egyptians you see today, you shall see no more. But this doesn’t mean complacency; we must ensure they do not return. This is a task for you, as power belongs to the people, though ultimately to God. God will work through you as He always has,” Otti emphasized.

In a sermon titled “The Captain of the Host of Heaven,” Pastor Kennedy Iheoma, President of the Abia North Central Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, honored fallen heroes and highlighted the importance of faith and trust in God. He encouraged armed forces members to recognize God’s supreme authority to overcome life’s challenges.

The service was attended by the Governor’s wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilia Otti, along with other dignitaries. Prayers were offered for the armed forces and members of the State Executive Council.
