In a passionate address to the press, the President General of the Igbo Vanguard Group (IVG), Engr. James Nnadozie Uchegbuo, called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of ‘I’m Not Going to Take It Anymore Day.’
He urged citizens to carefully study the concept and prioritize dialogue over violence in their actions.
He emphasized that this day serves as a call to action against societal injustices, encouraging citizens to stand firm and demand fairness through polite and socially acceptable means.
Engr. Uchegbuo underscored the day’s significance as a moment for Nigerians to voice grievances, whether concerning perceived exorbitant bank charges, the relentless rise in transportation fares, relentless rise in foodstuff or rise in energy costs.
He advocated for organizing peaceful protests and strikes as a means to express dissatisfaction and push for change.
Reflecting on historical precedents, Uchegbuo drew parallels with the Haitian Rebellion of 1791, where oppressed individuals rose against their oppressors.
He noted that just as the slaves of Saint Domingue fought for their freedom, Nigerians too must unite against modern-day injustices in a civilized manner.
The IVG leader stressed the importance of collective action, urging labour workers and civilians alike to rally together and support the government through meaningful suggestions and recommendations and also with prayers for the common good.
He reminded the public that the power of the people is formidable when united in purpose, and that positive change is achievable through persistent effort and solidarity.
Engr. Uchegbuo also acknowledged the progress made in recent years, with numerous protests highlighting societal issues.
He called for continued vigilance and activism, ensuring that the voices of the marginalized are heard and respected.
