The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Abia State Council, Comrade Chidi Asonye, has extended warm wishes to members of the NUJ, envisioning a year filled with happiness, success, and boundless opportunities.
Asonye underscored the critical need for sustainable collaboration between journalists and society, emphasizing the role of the media as a cornerstone of democracy. He passionately advocated for the improved welfare of journalists in Abia State, highlighting the importance of their well-being in fostering a vibrant press.
Looking towards the future, Asonye envisioned a retrained cadre of journalists by 2025, who will uphold objectivity, investigative rigor, and a high sense of professionalism as the esteemed fourth estate of the realm.
He expressed gratitude for Governor Alex Otti’s monthly media chats, which he believes foster transparency and dialogue. Asonye also expressed optimism that the NUJ secretariat would be completed and handed over to the council by 2025, along with the acquisition of a new council bus.
In a call for unity, Asonye urged members to embrace love, peace, and mutual support, recognizing these as essential pillars for a cohesive and effective journalistic community.
He prayed that the New Year would herald a season of growth, peace, and fulfillment for journalists, enabling them to continue their vital work with renewed vigor and dedication.
Asonye’s message resonated with a call to action, urging journalists to remain steadfast in their commitment to truth and accountability while adapting to the evolving media landscape.
As the New Year unfolds, the Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists stands poised to navigate the challenges ahead, with a renewed focus on collaboration, welfare, and professional excellence.
