In a spirit of gratitude and reflection, the Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev’d Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, has shared a profound message for the 2024 Christmas season, drawing inspiration from the biblical verse, “Then the angel said to them, do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all the people” (Luke 2:10 NKJV).
In a message delivered at St. Stephen’s cathedral, Umuahia, Abia State, reminded the congregation that, “As we embrace the festive atmosphere, we are reminded of the incarnation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ”.
The Bishop humbly prays that the joy of this season will continue to bless your life, ministry, business, and family in the name of Jesus Christ, the true reason for the season.
Despite the year’s challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, and scarcity, the Bishop expresses gratitude to God for His infinite mercies that have sustained us.
As Christians in Abia celebrate, Bishop Ibeabuchi urges citizens to take time to pray for the state, and Nigeria as a whole.
He encourages appreciation for the leadership of the state, particularly Governor Alex Chioma Otti, and those working alongside him to advance the state, praying God to grant them wisdom and understanding to guide Abia State effectively.
The Bishop emphasizes that the peace, development, and prosperity we seek as a nation are found in Jesus Christ, the newborn King.
“This season should not be one of sorrow or fear, despite adverse government policies. Instead, it is a time to celebrate the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, ensuring He holds His rightful place in our lives, businesses, and families. As stated in Revelation 3:20, *Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me*. There is abundant provision and joy in Christ”.
The Bishop also prays for divine protection for those traveling during this season, despite high transportation costs.
He calls for the love of Christ to prevail in our lives, families, communities, and cities, and for God to defend His people against any adversarial plots, just as He thwarted King Herod’s plans in Matthew 2:16.
Furthermore, the Bishop encourages churches and the faithful in the Diocese to lead by example, organizing programs for spiritual nourishment.
“The Church and ministers are urged to preach peace and guide the masses to Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. The faithful are also encouraged to share God’s blessings with those around them, while the Diocese extends condolences to families who lost loved ones in various stampedes caused by hunger”.
The Bishop calls for the rejection of selfishness, idolatry, immorality, greed, and wickedness, making room for Jesus Christ in our lives.
The Bishop concludes with warm wishes for a memorable and joyous Christmas.
