In a vibrant display of community spirit and youthful enthusiasm, the Umuagu community celebrated the grand commencement of a highly anticipated football competition, generously sponsored by Chief Rotarian Uchechukwu Udeji (Nwa Ghana), President of the Rotary Club of Umuahia North District 9142 and a renowned philanthropist.
Speaking with journalists at the venue, Umuagu Central School, Chief Udeji expressed that the initiative, aimed at discovering young talents and fostering peace and unity, has already begun to weave a tapestry of hope and camaraderie among the residents.
He assured that the competition promises not only to showcase the football prowess of young athletes but also to serve as a platform for building lasting friendships and understanding among diverse groups.
Stakeholders and community leaders, including Hon. Sir Emeka Ejiogu, who represented Umuahia North State Constituency from 2007 to 2015; Chief Chidiebere Nwachukwu, former Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area; Chief Chinedum Obilor, former Vice Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area; the Mayor of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Chief Smart Iheoma, and his entourage; Chairman of Umueje Development Union Federated, Prince Obioma Oburuoga; Assistant Governor Zone 7, Rotary Club District 9142, Rotarian Emeka Sopuruchi, among other distinguished personalities, attended and were effusive in their praise for the sponsor.
They noted that his commitment to the community extends beyond politics, as evidenced by this latest endeavor to nurture the next generation of sports stars and peace ambassadors.
Chief Chinedum Obilor (Iyierioba) specifically acknowledged the significant role Chief Udeji played in shaping the political landscape of the Ohuhu constituency during the 2023 State House of Assembly election.
As the tournament progresses, the community eagerly anticipates the emergence of new talents and the strengthening of bonds that will contribute to a harmonious and prosperous Umuagu.
The opening ceremony, held at the local sports ground, was a spectacle of color and excitement, drawing participants and spectators from all corners of the community.
The kickoff was performed by Chief Emeka Ejiogu, former House Member of Umuahia North State Constituency.
The UMUKONU village team played a goalless match with the UMUEZEHIRI village team.
The AGUEBI village team will face the MGBAGORO village team.
The finals are scheduled for December 31, 2024.
