The Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Catechist Ambrose Jonah, has praised the joint efforts of various agencies within the environmental sector, which have elevated the state’s status as one of the cleanest in the federation.

Speaking to journalists after overseeing the December 2024 environmental sanitation exercise in Umuahia, Jonah expressed optimism that this collaboration will reach new heights in the coming year.

He urged the people of Abia to support Governor Alex Otti’s initiatives by maintaining a cleaner and greener state.

Jonah encouraged residents to remain vigilant about environmental cleanliness during the festive season, advising, “If you eat, ensure you do not litter. Collect your waste and keep your surroundings clean while enjoying the festivities.”

“I want to commend all agencies, government appointees, traders, and everyone who participated in making today’s sanitation exercise a resounding success. Our performance was outstanding, with everyone contributing to ensure cleanliness,” Jonah stated.

He also expressed gratitude for Governor Otti’s support and assured him that ASEPA would continue to uphold its commitment to a clean environment.

“We will do everything possible to maintain a clean environment in the state,” Jonah affirmed, looking forward to a promising 2025.

Mrs. Ure Abazie, Director General of the Abia State Orientation Agency (ABSOA), highlighted the agency’s efforts in educating residents about environmental health, noting the positive outcomes of these initiatives.

“Today, the ABSOA team monitored the monthly general sanitation across the state. While the government, through ASEPA, has provided necessary logistics for waste management, more effort is needed from the public in waste disposal,” Abazi observed.

She expressed concern over certain areas, particularly around the Isi-gate axis, where traders and motorists need to adopt better hygiene practices. “We should not need coercion to keep our environment clean. The new Abia government, led by Governor Alex Otti, is committed to ensuring our state remains clean, serene, and safe,” she emphasized.

Abazie called on citizens and residents to join in the collective responsibility of maintaining a clean Abia, urging them to take personal hygiene seriously and make environmental cleanliness a daily habit.
