As some countries across the globe celebrate the year 2024 Cat Herder’s Day, the Chairman of a Charity Organization known as Harrison Goodness Foundation, HGF Chief Richard Harrison has advised the public to embrace the habit of appreciating and commending those who enable others to gain strength.

This is just as he asserted that the present society need leaders who embodies balancing characteristics such as calm and clarity and who have the ability to stand tall when tension, confusion and exhaustion are high.


December 15 Cat Herder’s Day, according to the records available is not dedicated to cats, but the celebration is meant for those who can manage others and themselves no matter what chaos is thrown their way. 

Interacting with our correspondent through WhatsApp chat, Chief Harrison, who observed that good leaders are decisive, confident in their decisions and not easily influenced and swayed without good and sound reasoning, further advised Nigerians not to take for granted “the people who are making your life easier”.

His words, “When you are appreciative and grateful towards people it makes you more likeable, trustworthy and kind. Gratitude is enchanting and bewitching, and once you engage it, you can be changed for good. Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. It helps people feel more positive emotions and relish good experiences, The practice of gratitude creates a frequency that attracts positive experiences and people into your life. Also one of the things people want most in life is to be noticed, praised, and admired in an honest way, especially by people who know them well”.

Chief Harrison who x-rayed a book by renowned leadership scholar and professor Warren G  Bennis titled: “Managing People Is Like Herding Cats”, and the position of Michelle Painchaud that “Managing people doesn’t have to be like herding cats”, moreover advised leaders to learn effective strategies to navigate the complexities of leading teams, with the aim to lead like-minded people, not restrict and manage them.

The Birth of National Cat Herders Day according to the records available is traceable to Thomas and Ruth Roy, who are the copyrighted creators of the popular National Cat Herders day which went public in USA Today.
