The traditional ruler of Umudike-ukwu autonomous community Oboro clan in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, HRH King Ben Ogechi Oriaku has called for aggressive public health sensitization for the prevention of the spread of the deadly viral Monkey-pox (M-pox) disease.

King Oriaku made this call in his palace when he received in audience, members of Nigerian Red Cross Society, NRCS Ikwuano chapter, led by Chief Eugene Obasi.N, Ekeruo Ikechukwu Kingsley and 

Ikwuano Health Authority (DSNO) Mr, Anthony Okore, who were on Community Sensitization campaign on the outbreak of MonkeyPox In Ikwuano LGA.

King Oriaku, who also observed that Mpox is an infectious disease that can cause a painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes, fever, headache, muscle ache, back pain and low energy, advised the public to embrace cleanliness and personal hygiene and also switch on their surveillance cameras and watch out for the environment.

He appreciated the Abia State Government and the NRCS for not relenting in ensuring that citizens of the state were protected against the disease through various health safety measures.

King Oriaku who is also the Patron of NRCS encouraged other relevant agencies to emulate the NRCS and also embark on public sensitisation to raise people’s awareness on the disease.

Speaking respectively earlier, Chief Eugene Obasi and Mr. Ekeruo Ikechukwu Kingsley, informed the traditional ruler about Mpox, a new infectious disease and the efforts of the NRCS aimed at sensitizing the people of the community about Monkey. 

They said that the Society embarked on M-pox sensitization exercise to educate the communities on the need for them to maintain standard health safety measures to prevent the disease in the state.
